Reopening Committee News and Covenant for Regathering

Important news from Joanie Somerville, chair of the Reopening Committee:
The St. Mark’s Reopening Committee understands that there are some small groups who would like to gather in person. We, as a committee, are not allowing any groups to gather within the walls of the physical building. However, we are allowing those groups who would like to gather to do so on either church grounds or elsewhere as long as they adhere to strict guidelines.
[Please note that this picture does *not* reflect the strict guidelines, unfortunately — maybe next year]
If you belong to any small groups at St. Mark’s, please check with the ministry leader in charge to see what plans are being made for your group.
All parishioners, please review the Covenant for Regathering below for more information about what current COVID guidelines look like for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and St. Mark’s.
If you have any questions, please contact Joanie at or (630) 200-3947. Thank you!
Covenant for Regathering

In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, I promise, with God’s help and to the best of my ability, to abide by the guidelines of the Diocese of Chicago for participation in the life of my congregation according to the regathering phase in which my congregation is authorized to carry out its mission and ministry.

In fulfillment of the Baptismal Covenant’s (BCP p. 304-305) commitment to:

Love my neighbor as myself, I will . . .
▪ Wear a mask or scarf over my nose and mouth at all times in church buildings and follow public health guidelines for hand sanitizing and disinfecting.
▪ Attend gatherings at St. Mark’s only if I am non-symptomatic for the COVID-19 virus or any other transmittable disease that could compromise the health of another congregant.
▪ Abstain from attending if doing so would put me at greater risk due to my own health status.
Respect the dignity of every human being, I will ..
.▪ Make no physical contact with people beyond the members of my own household
▪ Maintain a six foot or more distance from other members of the congregation
▪ Respect any requests for distance, masking, and cleaning, to ensure the safety and comfort level of others
Seek and serve Christ in all people, I will …
▪ Trust and support the decisions of both my diocesan and congregational leaders
▪ Stay connected with others in my community by telephone, video chat, text, email, or “snail” mail
